Introduce yourself! ^_^

Off-topic, but I have to question the Mai series' status as magical-girl anime. Yes, it includes magical girls, but I'm not sure that it fits into the genre in terms of tropes or execution.

I think in terms of its tropes and the way the story is presented it's actually more straight-up urban fantasy, kind of like something that Charles Williams might write if he were Japanese and understood teenagers better. Even the ending makes sense in the context of this genre because that circle of writers (Tolkien, Williams, Lewis, Barfield, Coghill, Sayers, Eliot) would often write unrealistically happy endings deliberately, to make a point. What this point would be in Mai-HiME (other than 'awesome crazy lesbians get ratings'), I'm not sure.

My definition of "magical girl series" is fairly liberal, so I do consider Mai-HiME part of the genre (though certainly a subversion on the typical trope). I never was able to get into Mai-Otome though...

I think the "superpowers" and "magical girl" overlap a lot, the main difference being the magical girl/protagonist triumphs via the power of positive emotion (which isn't really a requirement in superpower stuff). Of course, by that definition, you're including most shounen series with nakama at the heart of them (as I said, I prefer a broad definition!). I remember turning to my husband when we were watching Naruto way back when, at the end of the tournament arc with Gaara redeemed because of the power of love (more or less) and saying, "Huh, I never knew this was a magical girl series!"

Or maybe there just needs to be more proper mahou shounen

I am also familiar with Tokyo Mew Mew and still need to read Saint Tail at some point (especially as it's the codifier for the magical girl thief trope). I've been out of the loop on the newer stuff though (yes, even Shugo Chara is "newer stuff" haha) and want to try and get back into it all before promoting my magical girl blog

Sorry to respond to this again a couple of days later, but I noticed something while re-watching the show. In episode 2 (?) they're discussing their ages and Alti says "Nee-san, you'll be 17 next month, right?" or something to that effect, which wouldn't make sense if they were twins, as they'd have been born the same day. So they're probably just barely the same age but Alti is at least 9 months younger. I'd assumed they were twins based on their similar looks, but that's probably just due to the same hairstyle and a similar outfit. I don't think the show ever actually says they're twins. I may be wrong about this though so someone can correct me if I am.

Yeah, I suppose you can't label it as a magical girl series. It's a combination of several genres, based on it's content and how the story develops in the Festival/Carnival arc. It's not your typical monster-of-the-day series from that point on. Mai-Otome, with it's Materialize!!! henshin sequences could give people the idea of magical girls. Raansu even brought up parallels, for example: Mai Tokiha. Like Usagi Tsukino in Sailor Moon, Mai is stronger than the rest of the HiME, although her and Shizuru are constantly being debated to this day. Most of the mary-sue shots are fired at Mai from what I've seen in fan discussions. Mai's powers may be supreme, but her character was not. The girl had it rough (...). I dunno, whatever. *ramble ramble ramble*

Oh yes I remember that now. I can say though that the OST biography set has them both as 16. Now it's stranger that you bring that up. They must have had very happy parents. I mean, it would have to be pretty much their mother was pregnant straight away. My two brothers are close in age, but they are still a year and a few months apart (Jan of '89 and July of '90) Something's really strange with the sisters and it's not just the incest.

It's possible that they're half-siblings, which is...disturbing in its own right.

Failing that, Daikuurikans could simply have shorter gestation periods.

After watching Simoun, I wish the spring excited in really life so that I could go there and become a man, instead of having to settle for taking hormones and having surgeries that are far from complete.

I'm planning to write some Dominura/Limone fics, since I have some prompts to use, and then I'll write whatever Miss Inspiration makes me:) I'll probably write more or less about everyone in Simoun^^

This year I'll cosplay as Dino, from the series Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Miranda from D. Gray man, but I'm planning to cosplay Dominura next year. I'm already looking how to sew her Sybilla uniform.

Ah nice! The fandom always needs more fanfic so I am always looking for other fanfic authors.

I don't know those characters, but I don't know those shows XD I've only heard of them. I cosplay Illya from Fate/stay night and I used to do Taiga from the same series. I'm also now cosplaying Aaeru in Sibylla dress, but I'm still waiting on my wig and the ribbon for it. In the spring I'm getting her pilot outfit made so I'll let you know how that turns out. I can't sew a lick, so I always have others make my costumes.

I'm pretty ESL myself, but I try my best to write in the best way I can and the more I write the better I get, hm? And if anyone ever dares tell me I haven't ever gotten better, I can show them proof of how I used to write just a year ago. becuase i usad to writ lik dis. And sometimes even worse than that!


I'm pretty well known for my icons, and I have made some Simoun icons in the past (which I have to continue or Rachy will eat my head). So I'm sure I'll know where to post 'em once I get off my lazy behind and actually do something!

JUST KIDDING. I only chose Yun because Aeru was already taken . I'm most like Aeru personality wise but I suppose I'd look more like Yun if I turned into an anime character all of a sudden. But like Aeru I was raised by my grandfather who was in the airforce and now I'm doing aviation in college while being funded through by the airforce which I'll be joining when I'm done.

The whole pilot aspect is what made me interested in this show. I'm fascinated by aircraft and flying and I always have been.
