Sibylla Pilot Jacket
This is something I’ve also noticed, and I’ve seen others wonder about it. I have also seen posts that have mentioned this on the AnimeSuki forums. So let’s discuss it eh? In hopes of starting some more discussion here, I’ll make this a post only to this forum and perhaps later on post it to LiveJournal.
How about those Sibylla pilot uniforms? You’ve got three types that we see on the various Sibyllae and at first glance it seems to have no rhyme or reason. “Hey, let’s add in different color uniforms just because it looks really cool!” might be a reaction. I think, however, that they are meant to show the status of when a girl first becomes a Sibylla based on a time period.
Aaeru and Limone are both the ones to wear the blue uniforms. They became Sibylla at around the same time, right before the Arcus Prima left the city. You then have Morinas, who joins on, Rodoreamon, Kaimu, Alti, Floe, and Mamiina with the dark red violet and lavender type of uniform. Finally, Yun, Neviril, Paraietta, Vyura, and Dominura all wear the lavender and off white uniform. This is what can be deduced about each uniform type and why it would refer to as time period joined, rather than age in general.
Blues- Aaeru and Limone. Both girls join as Sibylla around the same time. Aaeru’s remarks that she volunteered are made and we see Limone in the first bit moving into the Sibyllae quarters, freshly promoted from cadet. Limone is 12 and Aaeru is 17. On an off topic bit, it’s amusing to see that Limone is the youngest to become a Sibylla and that Aaeru, at 17, is probably one of the oldest to become a Sibylla.
Red Violet and Lavender- Rodoreamon, Kaimu, Alti, Floe, and Mamiina. It would be apparent that both Kaimu and Alti, as sisters, joined at the same time. They should be referred to as twins, as both are 16 (unless there’s something about their family we don’t know?). Rodoreamon, Mamiina, Floe are 16 as well. I can’t be sure of any of the others joining at the same time; the only ones who might have joined together would have been Floe and Rodoreamon. We don’t know how far apart they live when we see them in episode 26. That’s just a random speculation.
Lavender and off white- Neviril and Paraietta are both 18, and we are shown that they indeed became Sibyllae at the same time. Dominura is 19, and Yun is 16. We do not know when Dominura became a Sibylla, and we do not know for Yun either.
My speculation is that a young girl becoming a Sibylla depends on passing various tests as a cadet, sort of like an exam one would take before they can graduate and receive a degree. The “degree” in this case is the Sibylla status. There seems to be a general age of when one might become a cadet, as evidenced by Limone being promoted so early; it is stated that she is a special case. With the exception of Limone, no girls are younger than 16 at the time the anime begins. Giving them a chance to be promoted and become adjusted, I’d guess that 15 may be the youngest age one might advance to Sibylla, possibly younger. We only know that 12 is seen as too young. There has to be a certain time though for the girls to adjust to piloting/praying with a pair and to have been able to have been picked to join Chor Tempest, the overall best Chor in Simulacrum.
Using this speculation, it is safe to say that the girls in the blues and the girls in the red violets joined as Sibylla at a certain time period, not age. It just happens to be that all the girls in the red violets are 16 as coincidence. Yun is 16 as well, but one could say she passed the tests needed before this group and before the color changed.
This is what is left to ponder: how long is one particular jacket color used before the switch is made to a different color? A couple years seems to make sense, but that doesn’t explain too much. When we see Anubituf and Guragief as Sibyllae, they too wear the lavender and off white jacket. So it could be that the jacket color change is more recent, or it just so happened that those two were part of the lavender rotation. My only other piece of evidence is that Chor Rubor also has the lavender and white as well as the red violet, as evidenced in episode 4 in the cafeteria scene where we see three of their Sibyllae. The girl to the far left is red violet while the other two are lavender. So yes, the rotation case seems to make sense. As for how long, my guess is two years.
And there you have it. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions, wanted!

Re: Sibylla Pilot Jacket
I don't think the uniforms are switched. There's Paraietta's flashback in episodeX (can't remember the number), where she and Neviril are fresh sibyllae and Neviril's flashback of the same moment when she meets Amuria for the first time. If I remember correctly, they had the same lavender&white uniforms there.
Maybe the uniform designs are changed yearly or by location, leading to different colours depending on the sibylla's age or home location? Maybe some famous temples have their own unique designs for their cadets to wear when they become sibyllae?

Ah by switched I never meant that the girls often changed their jackets. I meant they were switched as in a new group of girls received a different color. Once a girl has a jacket, they don't change colors.
Locations could have a different one. It seems that there is some uniformity in the colors used. We see various girls come to Chor Tempest with different versions of the jacket, save for the blues, which only seem to be used for the newest of the new. Or, perhaps, to signify those who became Sibyllae during the war. That was just me throwing that out there.
